There are many different skills you must have to be a successful swimmer.
The ability to hold your breath for long periods of time.
The ability to blow air out of your nose...or the ability not to be bothered by clorine going in your nose
The ability to do flips underwater and many more
Of coarse you would be taught these things during practice...well exept for holding you breath, that takes years of practice for a LONG time, I mean like 2 or 3 laps without a breath.
You also will have to learn the proper way to dive.
Then you have a choice to wear speedos or jammers, for the sake of others wear the jammers (the top one).
You also need a place to swim, so if you live in GA like myself you can go to places like
That's only a few examples, there also dozens of swim teams you can join during the summer in various neighborhoods!!!
Though it does take a lot of training to be great, but its not always in the water. During practice you will at some point have to do "dryland" workouts. For example you might have to do things like push ups, sit ups and squats!
Warning- Over practicing could lead to serious health problems!
